The latest release of ChatGPT is the most advanced yet, including natural flowing conversation, emoting, looking through the camera, solving problems, and even singing!

OpenAI is launching a new artificial intelligence model, GPT-4o, with updates that include a new desktop service and a more advanced voice assistant. Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, introduced the new model as a step forward in AI technology, bringing faster and more accurate GPT-4 to users of the free version. Among the new features are improved language capabilities of ChatGPT and the ability to upload images, audio and text documents for analysis. These functions were previously only available to GPT Plus subscribers.

The event included a demonstration of the model’s new voice capabilities, where researchers talked to an AI voice model that generated bedtime stories and solved math equations. AI has also demonstrated the ability to recognize facial expressions and assess emotions. At one point, a researcher asked the AI model to judge his mood based on his facial expressions, and the voice assistant concluded that he looked “happy and cheerful with a big smile and maybe even a touch of excitement.”

According to a Bloomberg report, OpenAI is close to finalizing a deal with Apple to integrate its generative AI features into the iOS operating system, which would build on the Siri voice assistant. Apple is trying to direct resources towards artificial intelligence because they lack a publicly available generative AI product similar to Google’s Gemini model. The new voice mode potentially provides more advanced features than those provided by Siri.

At the same time, OpenAI is facing lawsuits from publishers like The New York Times for alleged copyright infringement, which could result in billions of dollars in damages. News organizations accuse OpenAI of illegally training its AI models on their work without compensation or consent, while OpenAI highlights the measures it is taking to prevent misuse of the new features.

The announcement of the new model comes at a time when the artificial intelligence industry is facing increased scrutiny from regulators and the public over privacy and ethics concerns. OpenAI emphasized its commitment to responsible technology development, noting that new features will be introduced gradually to ensure their safe use and prevent misuse.
