Number of 5G network users doubled in a year, including increase in data traffic

The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries has published its latest analysis of the telecommunications market for Q2 2024.

According to the latest HAKOM report, the second quarter was marked by an increase in the number of mobile service users that browse the web via mobile devices, which represents a growth of 4.08 percent compared to the previous year, reaching the figure of 5.66 million.

The number of private users of 3G and 4G mobile phones decreased by 11.23 percent, i.e. to 3.22 million, while the number of 5G network users in the private segment experienced an impressive growth of 100.75 percent, reaching 1.055 million.

There are also changes in the segment of business users. The number of 3G and 4G users decreased by 3.96 percent, dropping to 1.1 million, while the number of business users with 5G access doubled by 100.93 percent, making it 288.64 thousand users.

Despite the general growth, according to HAKOM’s analysis, the number of data card users in both segments, private and business, remains low. Nevertheless, we can observe growth in the use of 5G infrastructure. In the private segment, the number of users using 5G data cards is 29 thousand, while in the business segment that number is 21 thousand. The majority of users in the 5G segment use 5G mobile phones, with the number of private users being 1.004 million and business users 228.73 thousand.

Simultaneously, data traffic has recorded a significant increase of 21.99 percent compared to last year, amounting to a total of 367.92 thousand terabytes (TB).
