Microsoft has released a Windows App compatible with iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows, and web browsers, consolidating various services into a central hub. The app facilitates the streaming of Windows copies from remote PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Microsoft Dev Box, and Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Services.
It supports multiple monitors, custom display resolutions, scaling, and device redirection for peripherals like webcams, storage devices, and printers. Currently limited to Microsoft’s business accounts, there are indications the Windows App may become available for consumers.
The Windows App signals Microsoft’s potential shift to a cloud-centric Windows platform, aligning with its ambition to extend cloud-based Windows services to consumers regardless of whether their devices run on Microsoft’s operating system. These efforts are also evidenced by the recent formation of a dedicated “Windows and Web Experiences” team focused on AI-powered web services for Windows.
