The European Union has issued its first-ever antitrust penalty against tech giant Apple in the amount of nearly $2 billion. The fine stems from accusations of Apple’s anti-competitive behavior, specifically related to its treatment of rival music streaming services like Spotify.
The new regulations under the EU’s Digital Markets Act will soon apply to tech businesses that create the operating systems, social networks, and search engines used by millions of people.
The Commission previously stated that the Digital Markets Act would come into force in Oc-tober! The aim is to take action against potential infringement committed by the most domi-nant companies in the IT industry: Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft.
