The European Union has granted approval to semiconductor research projects worth 8 billion euros in public funds as part of its efforts to strengthen the bloc’s domestic chip-supply chain.

EU officials are reportedly considering a mandatory ban on the use of certain companies, including China’s Huawei, in member states’ 5G networks due to security concerns. The discussions come as Brussels grows concerned about some national governments’ slow response to the issue.
