The European Union is working to reshape its volatile 5G network implementation and aims to include Big Tech companies’ largest platforms to cover the cost.

The Commission previously stated that the Digital Markets Act would come into force in Oc-tober! The aim is to take action against potential infringement committed by the most domi-nant companies in the IT industry: Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft.

The European Commission announced in Amsterdam on April 25 that it had approved a two-billion-euro Italian scheme to support the rollout of 5G of mobile networks through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.

According to the European Commission’s 2021 edition of the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), Croatia has moved up to 19th place, but the biggest step forward has been made by investing in the development of the 5G network.

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), key EU funding instrument, has provided an additional €2 billion for projects based on 5G technologies.

The analysis of the IT industry in Croatia, conducted by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, shows that, during the five-year period ending in 2019, the sector recorded high growth rates of employment, revenue and profitability, and that wages are growing faster than in other sectors.

The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed the development of 5G in Europe, which in turn could cause long-term economic problems as the rest of the world, especially the US and Asia, rushes to roll out 5G technology in all sectors.
